With Great Hijabi Powers, Comes Great Responsibility

Every one of my Muslimah sisters can understand the struggles of wearing the hijab. From the not-so-threatening, uncomfortable looks and comments to the very serious hate messages and harassment, being a hijabi isn’t easy. However, the difficulties become even more whilst travelling. Before I took on this incredible responsibility, I would get pulled aside at the airport, but it got worse once I wore it. It’s not the nicest feeling in the world, but there are so many things that can make the burden feel less heavy. Being prepared is essential, like having your magnet pins ready and a ninja underscarf/undercap so that if the security asks you to take it off, you’re still covered. This way, they’re able to check more easily, and you’re not compromising your faith and feeling insecure. If they’re still giving you a hard time, make sure to ask for a female security guard so they can escort you to a different room with no male personnel. We all need to learn these things and stand up for our rights, because the forceful removal of the hijab is a violation of those rights. We’re often made to look like fools or that we’re less than because of our hijab, so that’s why these posts can be helpful, at a very basic level. Of course, I’m not an expert, so that’s why it’s even more crucial to go to the experts, those who know.
